I'm so happy you're visiting Skagit and may be considering a dreamy and fun photo session! Photos are the BEST souvenir to take home.
This page is to offer a vision for what it's like to help you determine how you want to plan your trip- from a local photographer's perspective.
As someone who lives and works in Skagit and understands the rhythms of tulip traffic, I trust I can offer one or two takeaways to help you out!
Four tulip farms: Roozengaarde, Tulip Town, and Garden Rosalyn, & Tulip Valley Farms.
Roozengaarde & Tulip Town have roots from Holland, and are bulb farms. Roozengaarde owns Tulip.com, they are a huge contributor to the international tulip bulb market. Both have beautiful gardens and fields. Because these are active farms that rely on their crops, walking into the rows of tulips is not allowed (there are attendants who watch and make sure everyone is staying on the paths). Note also, as these are crops, some do get sprayed regularly after-hours with chemicals, so yes, we all need to stay out of the fields.
Roozengaarde- BEST gardens! Also, the busiest/most crowded.
Tulip Town- tractor rides for the family, more room to walk.
Garden Rosalyn- I have not visited, I cannot speak to this one.
Tulip Valley Farms- this farm is designed to be family-friendly! YES- you may walk inbeween the rows! YES- they offer u-pick! YES- they have a petting farm and they allow dogs.
Top Considerations
Peak bloom & weather
Depending on how far you're traveling from, these are out of your control. So, bring layers and boots and be ready to enjoy the flowers, rain or shine!
traffic
THIS may be more in your control, so here is what I recommend: 1. Most ideal: Visit midweek. 2. Next best: Visit on a weekday. 3. Least recommended: Visiting on a weekend.
Are weekends your only option? Never fear! Timing- plan for an early start to arrive shortly before the farms open. Better yet- come early and get breakfast at the Calico Cupbard first (LaConner or Mount Vernon), then head over to the fields! (yes- I use lots of hyphens. no- I'm not using Chatgpt- this is me!)
I am not exagerrating- if it's a gorgeous Saturday during peak bloom, the backroads are like Seattle at rush hour and it can take an hour to get from point A to point B. I hope with the above considerations and making a plan that you can avoid this!
Food
Maybe pack a few snacks just in case. There are concessions at most of the farms, and town is nearby for main meals before or after your time in the fields.
Photo Sessions
K, so you're planning a visit and would like photos!
Photo sessions with me are typically at Tulip Town after-hours (during the 6pm-sunset timeframe); if you have littles who would benefit from the freedom of a family-friendly farm, we will chat about Tulip Valley Farm.
Midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) Up to 5 people, $750

FAQ
What about weekend sessions?
Weekend sessions are available at Deception Pass or Ebey's Landing- these are GORGEOUS PNW locations that will fill your heart!!!
What about the weather?
If you have boots, I have umbrellas!
If we can reschedule we will. If not, Christianson's Nursery is a beautiful setting for photos!
Will you meet me at Roozengaarde?
While I LOVE their garden and fields, I do not love their crowds. I'm an open-area kind of gal. Roozengaarde is an excellent place to photograph as a hobby- pack your camera and enjoy! There are so many nice people, too, be sure to ask someone to take a pic for you.
What kind of photo sessions are best?
The fields are AWESOME for senior sessions!!!
I recommend groups of 5 or less. Larger groups I recommend meeting me at Deception Pass.
